What a different start this season with the AFL starting with an “Opening Round” of just four games trying to grab people’s attention in the two rugby states before the NRL gets into full swing, playing all four teams from those states – NSW and Queensland. It certainly worked, with most games being complete sellouts. This also means that those eight teams each need a “bye” before we get to Round 12 (the bye rounds), so by then, the ladder will be a true indication of where all teams stand as they would have all played the same number of games.
The “Opening Round” was a week of problems picking winners, as both teams who played in last year’s Grand Final were beaten—albeit with Brisbane losing by just one point. Last season, they won every game played at home. We still had 13 people select 3 winners, so well done to those people.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The West Australian Newspaper made a mistake when they printed the fixtures for this season back in November. ( We type out our tipping entry form from this copy of the paper.) They quoted Round 7 as having only seven games, allowing for those extra byes, when in fact, Round 7 will have nine games. For this reason, rather than trying to contact everyone for their tipping of the other two games, everyone will start with two correct tips for Round 7.
The ladder is attached
Good luck everyone with your tipping for “Round 1” next week with our jackpot starting at $40-00 for all correct winners.
